Rakiraki · Northern Viti Levu · Intimate island retreat

A little island with room to make it your own

Dolphin Island brings together palm-shaded beaches, just four guest bure suites and the personal warmth of a small Fijian island team.

Set off Viti Levu’s northern coast, this 14-acre retreat welcomes up to eight guests. It is a beautiful setting for a honeymoon, a family gathering or a few close friends travelling together. Swim, share a long lunch and let the day unfold at an easier pace.

Why Dolphin Island?

Personal hospitality, with the sea all around

The appeal is the scale: a handful of suites, a welcoming guest lodge and space to spend time together.

Dolphin’s small island team creates a relaxed, hosted stay. Meals and activities can be discussed around your interests, while quiet corners invite you to settle in with a book. This suits travellers who enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and a personal connection with their hosts.

A slow breakfast, an afternoon on the water, then a table set just for your evening.

Exclusive-use stays are a particular draw. Tell us whether having the whole island to your party is essential, and we will confirm the precise booking arrangement and inclusions for your dates.

Accommodation

Guest Bure Suites

The four guest suites combine traditional island character with air-conditioned comfort.

Timber floors, high ceilings and wooden shutters create a light, relaxed setting, with dressing space and generous bathrooms.

Each suite has twin basins, a bath and shower, plus an outdoor shower in a private garden courtyard. Daily housekeeping and an evening turndown service add thoughtful finishing touches.

Let us know your party size and preferred bedding so we can confirm the suite allocation. The infinity pool is beside the main guest lodge; these suites should not be booked on the assumption that each has its own pool.

The heart of the island

A place to gather and unwind

The main bure is the island’s guest lodge, with lounge seating, a broad verandah and views over the infinity pool.

Come here for a drink, a conversation or a quiet hour out of the sun.

Daybeds and poolside seating offer a change of scene from the beach. The open, breezy layout gives friends and families a comfortable place to spend time together, while the guest suites provide their own retreat.

The main bure is a shared living and dining space rather than a separate sleeping category.

Something memorable

The Hilltop Sleep-Out Bure

A thatched roof, open-air bedroom and sea-facing position make the Hilltop Sleep-Out one of Dolphin’s most distinctive experiences.

Lanterns give it a gentle glow after dark, with a simple bathroom, shower and toilet alongside.

Ask about arranging a night here during your stay. Availability, weather, access and suitability need to be checked with the island team. We treat it as a special sleep-out experience, not an extra suite that increases the island’s stated guest capacity.

Dining

Island flavours and a table with a view

Meals draw on Fijian and Indo-Fijian flavours, with seafood, tropical fruit, coconut and fresh local ingredients.

The small scale makes it possible to discuss preferences with your hosts, rather than working around a large resort’s restaurant timetable.

Dining settings include the lodge verandah, poolside and beach, with special locations arranged according to conditions. Ask about a lovo meal or a cooking session with the team for a closer introduction to island food.

Dolphin markets an all-inclusive stay. Your quote will spell out the meals, drinks and transfers included, along with any extras. Please share allergies and dietary requirements before booking so the resort can confirm suitable arrangements.

On the water

Explore Fiji’s northern waters

Sea kayaks, catamarans and snorkelling equipment are available for guests. Ask the team about conditions and suitable routes before setting out, and leave time for an unhurried swim or a picnic.

Dolphin is also a base for diving around Rakiraki and the Bligh Water region. The resort can arrange trips with local operators, including excursions towards the Vatu-i-Ra Passage. Sites depend on weather, sea conditions and diver experience. Diving, fishing and organised excursions may carry additional charges.

Culture and wellbeing

Make room for a different kind of day

Ask about cooking classes, local markets and cultural visits around Rakiraki. A personalised mainland outing can add another perspective to your island stay, with arrangements guided by local hosts and availability.

Massages, facials and other treatments can also be arranged on the island. Book ahead if a particular treatment matters to you, and confirm the cost. You can keep your plans light, with plenty of room for whatever feels right on the day.

Families and celebrations

Time together, on your own terms

Dolphin welcomes families with children of all ages.

Children’s meals and babysitting can be discussed in advance, making it a lovely option for a small multigenerational holiday.

Rock-pool exploring, beach time and age-appropriate water activities give younger travellers plenty to discover. Adults should supervise children around the sea, pool, jetty and uneven paths; this is a natural island setting.

For a honeymoon, anniversary or birthday, tell us what would make it special. We can enquire about private dining and other arrangements without filling every day with a programme.

Getting there

From New Zealand to Dolphin Island

Fly into Nadi International Airport, then travel towards Rakiraki on Viti Levu’s northern coast. The resort describes a private road transfer of approximately two and a half hours, followed by a short boat crossing.

Allow around 10 to 20 minutes for the boat journey, depending on the departure point and conditions. We will confirm the wharf, timing and transfer inclusions with your itinerary. Helicopter or floatplane transfers may be requested at additional cost, subject to operator availability, baggage limits and weather.

Tell us about any mobility needs before booking. Boarding boats, steps and island paths need individual assessment, especially if you hope to use the hilltop sleep-out. Flight connections may require a mainland overnight stay.
