Your own little corner of island life
Treehouse hideaways, quiet beaches and the extraordinary blue of Horseshoe Bay.
Matangi Private Island Resort is a small, family-owned retreat on a 240-acre island in Fiji’s northeast. Come for a honeymoon, an anniversary or simply a week together, with warm Fijian hospitality and time to settle into the rhythm of the sea.
Plan my Matangi escape
A private island with a personal welcome
Mornings might begin with coffee on your verandah, followed by a snorkelling trip or a swim in the resort pool. Later, find a shady spot to read, book a spa treatment or head into the island’s green interior with a guide.
Matangi welcomes guests aged 16 and over. Its intimate scale and choice of secluded bures and treehouses make it especially appealing for couples who want nature, comfort and a sense of getting away.
Beachside bures and treetop retreats
Natural textures, Fijian craftsmanship and generous outdoor spaces give each stay its island character. All accommodation has air-conditioning; your preferred category and bedding are confirmed when we arrange your quote.
Oceanview Bures
Set among palms and gardens, these bures pair ocean outlooks with bright interiors, high bamboo ceilings and a four-poster king bed. A private verandah with a hanging sofa and an outdoor lava-rock shower make the most of the tropical setting. Sleeps two.
Beachfront Bures
A few steps from the sand, these thatched bures have a four-poster king bed, private verandah and outdoor lava-rock shower. Settle into the hanging sofa between swims and enjoy having the beach close by. Sleeps two.
Luxury Treehouse Bures
Tucked into the foliage above the beach, the treehouses bring added privacy and a sense of adventure. Each has a king bed, private sun deck, daybed, outdoor shower and outdoor Jacuzzi. Sleeps two; stair access is part of the experience.

Beachfront Treehouse Villa
For a little more room to linger, the Beachfront Treehouse Villa with Plunge Pool combines an elevated retreat with direct beach access.
Its wrap-around balcony has a private plunge pool, daybed, swing chair and outdoor dining area.
Inside are a king bed, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and a smart TV. An outdoor spa bath and lava-rock shower complete the setting. This category accommodates two guests and is reached by stairs.
Two Bedroom Bure
On a rocky point overlooking the reef lagoon, the Two Bedroom Bure suits two couples or up to four guests aged 16 and over. Both king bedrooms have an ensuite and outdoor lava-rock shower, opening onto a shared covered verandah.
Tell us about mobility or access needs before booking so we can check the most suitable accommodation, paths and boat-transfer arrangements with the resort.
Fresh island flavours, all day
Vale-Ni-Kana dining room looks out towards the beach and gardens.

Menus draw on local fish and seafood, tropical fruit and vegetables, with Fijian and South Pacific influences. The weekly lovo introduces the flavours of a traditional earth-oven feast.
The resort’s standard accommodation includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. Beverages and minibar items are generally extra unless your confirmed package specifically includes them. We will clearly set out the meal and drink inclusions in your quote.
Vegetarian dishes are available. Please share dietary requirements when enquiring so the kitchen can confirm arrangements before you travel.

Make time for a quieter moment
Book a treatment at the Ocean Spa and unwind to the sound of the water.
The menu includes Fijian Bobo massage, facials and body treatments using ingredients and products associated with Fiji.
A honeymoon or anniversary is also a lovely reason to ask about private dining or a Horseshoe Bay picnic. Spa treatments and special experiences are charged separately unless included in your confirmed package.
Explore beyond the beach
Daily guided snorkelling excursions are a highlight, with fringing reefs close to the island. Kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and small-catamaran sailing offer other ways to enjoy the coastline.
Scuba diving and fishing excursions can also be arranged at additional cost. Activities depend on weather, sea conditions, equipment and operating schedules; follow the resort team’s advice before heading out.
Rainforest, culture and waterfalls
Guided walks reveal another side of Matangi, while the activity programme may include cooking demonstrations, kava and talanoa, handicrafts and traditional dance.
For a day further afield, ask about Taveuni’s Tavoro waterfalls, the Lavena Coastal Walk or a visit to neighbouring Qamea. Off-island tours, private outings and any transfer costs are confirmed separately.
Tavoro waterfalls on neighbouring Taveuni, an optional excursion from Matangi.
A scenic journey through northern Fiji
Fly to Nadi, then take a domestic flight to Matei Airport on Taveuni. The resort describes the domestic flight as approximately 90 minutes, followed by around 45 minutes of combined road and boat transfers to Matangi.
Transfers must be arranged in advance. Matangi does not operate airport transfers from Savusavu on Vanua Levu, so choosing the correct domestic arrival point matters.
We will connect the details
Forever Fiji can help coordinate flights, the resort stay and onward transfers. Connection times, domestic baggage allowances and any overnight stop are checked for your itinerary. Transfer costs are separate unless expressly included in your quote.
Let’s put your island escape together
